I find myself thinking a lot about a video I saw last week on "The Women of Harry Potter". J.K. Rowling is interviewed in this video and when talking about Molly Weasley says:
"I consider myself to be a feminist, and I'd always wanted to show that just because a woman has made a choice, a free choice, to say, 'Well, I'm gonna raise my family and that's gonna be my choice. I may go back to a career I may have a career part-time, but that's my choice' doesn’t mean that that's all she can do."
I guess that sometimes I am sensitive about being an at-home mom rather than having a career. Rowling very succinctly said what I have been feeling for so long. Just because I choose to stay home doesn't mean this is all I can do and that this is all I am. I choose to be defined as "Mother" and I love that definition (or I wouldn't choose it), but there is more to me than just this...
Which is why I am excited we are doing this little blogging experiment! I have always wanted to see if I could be a writer, like a person who is actually paid to share their thoughts, ya know?! And, I feel like maybe this blog will help to give me the practice and discipline to actually try my hand at being a pseudo-writer (or maybe even someday an actual real-writer).
Of course, whenever I get e-mails and texts from you, I find myself laughing out loud. And, I also find that my response is funnier than it would have been to someone else. So, in a lot of ways, you bring out, what I consider to be, the best in me.
So, eff yeah, blogosphere, let's see what we can do!
